Description

A small space shooter game inspired by the likes of Eve, Realm of the Mad God, and Darkstar One. The idea for the game is to combine bullet hell mechanics with a space sci-fi environment, with ships, lasers, drones, asteroids, space stations, and everything you can expect from a space-age galaxy!

Mechanics

One of the main mechanics of the game will be the progression system. I want death to be somewhat accepted, similar to Rust and Escape from Tarkov. Death will be common and replacements will thus usually be cheap. Thus, in order to make death less disheartening, the experience you need to unlock new ships and weapons to use will be rewarded only upon death. This means that staying alive will be rewarding since more experience will be banked up, but dying is still necessary to be able to make the experience usable. I think this will be a big thing that the game will be based around, and encourage experimentation and theory crafting.

Multiplayer?

The initial idea was to make the game multiplayer, but if that were the case the game likely wouldn't have many players and the game would feel dead and boring. Thus, I am focusing on the single-player experience first and foremost so that if multiplayer is added later, the game can still be enjoyed with low player counts. Multiplayer would add a lot to the game though, such as the option of player trading, specializations/professions, co-operative gameplay (e.g. 2 players control one ship), and a myriad of PvP activities.

Progress

This is just a place right now for me to share the progress of the game and have a history of the project. The game right now is in a barely playable state, with no real goals that the player can work towards. I'm hard at work on implementing the core features, with my first goal being to achieve around 1 hour of progression and content. Once this happens, and a suitable new player experience is created, I will release on Steam.

All art is placeholder, and generally everything is subject to change. I am not an artist, and I'll try my best to replace some of the placeholder free models I found, but more likely is that I will look into hiring an artist.
